Longs Peak Scottish Irish Festival

We started our trip to California by doing a familiar routine for the weekend after Labor Day; we went to the Longs Peak Scottish Irish Festival. Beth and Tommy joined us last night at one of our favorite campsites in Hermit Park. Then we all went to the parade followed by having some beers and meat pies at the fairgrounds. This year they brought in two top rated pipe bands from Scotland. But we found the rest of the musical entertainment to be below our expectations from the last few years. We did, however, particularly enjoy Amazing Grace with the massed bands and the competition among the Western U.S. Pipe Band Association.

In particular, one band had a 6 or 7 year old drummer, who was great at twirling her drum sticks and keeping time. It was a beautiful blue sky day in the high 70s, so the sun wore us out during the day. Upon returning to our campsite that night, we encountered a bobcat wandering up the hillside from the campground. This was both Mary and my first bobcat sighting. We tried to see if we could see where it came down the other side, but no such luck. And, of course, I wasn’t quick enough with my camera to catch a shot. The night got pretty cold, because we ran out of LP gas during the night.
